Neoteric Design, Inc.: Front End Developer
Posted: Sep 13, 2019
We're seeking a full-time, on-location front-end developer. We are Neoteric Design: an intentionally small yet mighty Chicago-based digital firm that designs and develops sites and web apps for innovative businesses, cultural institutions, and universities. We’re collaborative, results-focused, and committed to excellence. Our clients love us for the depth of our experience, get-it-done attitude, and attention to detail.
Day to day, you will:
Work collaboratively with colleagues who excel in Ruby, user experience, business strategy, project management, and QA. About 25% of your work will involve user experience writ large: UI and responsive design, Figma prototypes, and design systems. About 75% of your work will involve front end development, working with CSS frameworks and toolkits, ERB, Typescript, Webpack, Gulp, and other tools. You’ll work across three product lines: JAMstack sites with Hugo, Forestry CMS, and Netlify; custom Ruby on Rails client web apps; and our custom Rails CMS.
- Excellent skills in HTML/CSS/JS — you might be as likely to design in browser as you would in Figma or Sketch
- Demonstrated experience with front end frameworks and JS libraries
- Demonstrated understanding of web typography, grid systems, and design systems
- Desire to learn and lead with new front end strategies, technologies, and methods
- Outstanding written, oral, and presentation communication skills
You may be a fit if:
You’ve got a position on your favorite technical reads, like Frost’s Atomic Design. Neoteric deeply values work-life balance: we have a culture of ‘work hard at work, then get home,’ on time, never late, and never over the weekend. We take our personal time and vacations seriously as opportunities to renew and reflect; so we build robust, secure software that helps us achieve these values. Our open office strives for library rules to minimize disruptions and maximize deep focus (sometimes with chill background tunes).
We work downtown in an architecturally noteworthy building along the historic jeweler’s row, with easy public transportation and bike-to-work amenities.
Generous holiday and vacation plans
Pre-tax public transportation plan
Training and development
Stocked fridge, coffee, espresso, etc.
We are unable to sponsor employment visas. Recruiters: hold your fire. We’re a small team and not a fit for your services. We are an equal opportunity employer.
