We are seeking a Computer Systems Engineer to identify, develop, and implement new programs for the software tools used by the Electrical Computer Aided Design Department (2279). This will require interaction with multiple laboratories, external vendors, and internal customers of the department. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as a member of a team will be critical to the successful rollout of new programs. Previous experience with CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics is desired but not required for the position as long is the person selected is willing to learn.


  1. Bachelor’s and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Engineering or Technology;

  2. Knowledge of, and experience with, techniques and tools that support applications, such as software development methodologies;

  3. Knowledge of, and experience with, software engineering practices and software development methodologies;

  4. Experience with electrical design software;

  5. Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.


  1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is highly desired;

  2. Experience with Mentor Graphics Design tools;

  3. Ability to work with multiple hardware and operating systems, system architectures, and network infrastructures;

  4. Overall knowledge of software development concepts;

  5. Knowledge and experience in testing methodologies, including the ability to troubleshoot and identify solutions for issues;

  6. Knowledge or experience with applying user-centered design processes;

  7. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment and interact with diverse customers understanding the business domain;

  8. Ability to develop innovative long-term solutions that are easy to use, integrate with other applications, and are straightforward to maintain;

  9. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines;

  10. Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  11. Effective communicator, presenter, and negotiator;

  12. Current and active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
