Technical Lead, Interior Designer

Curioso's Chicago studio is in search of an experienced INTERIOR DESIGNER or ARCHITECT with a successful track record of leading interior design projects.

The ideal candidate is a natural tinkerer who is curious about the world around them and passionate about problem solving. You will join a collective of like-minded disrupters & creatives who are driven by curiosity and lead with empathy, always thinking about the world around us in all of its shapes, forms, and experiences.



  • 5-8 years minimum of interior design experience with 2-3 years of solid hospitality experience

  • Deep experience and involvement in all phases of interior design and construction (SD, DD, CD, CA and Construction)

  • Expert in Revit and AutoCAD for quick space planning exercise to full construction documentation drawings

  • Experienced in creating comprehensive, cohesive and creative construction document sets

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Possess strong verbal, written and visual communication skills and presentation abilities (Spanish is a plus)

  • Accredited Degree in Interior Design or Architecture  

  • NCIDQ Certification, state licensure and LEED Accreditation is a plus

  • Strong conceptual and design skills

  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship-management skills

  • Ability to work well under pressure, juggle and prioritize multiple projects and manage tight timelines

  • Strong visualization skills: from quick concept sketches to complete presentation sketches, 3D modeling (Google SketchUp, Revit) to rendering (Enscape, Lumion, Vray, or equivalent)

  • Proficient in Creative Adobe Suite applications

  • Proficient in Bluebeam



  • Develop space planning concepts and generate program documents

  • Collaborate with and support teams to create designs that meet Curioso standards and will exceed our clients' expectations

  • Collaborate with Studio Leader, Project Orchestrator, Design Leader to ensure project deliverables are on target and technical solutions are identified

  • Coordinate with Studio Design Leader in identifying and providing services per scope and schedule

  • Lead team in the production and delivery of quality and timely set of contract documents 

  • Collaborate with external partners including architect of record, kitchen designer, lighting consultants, general contractor, MEP engineers and others to ensure visions are aligned and coordinated

  • Work closely with Principal/Studio Design Leaders, general contractor and client to ensure design direction, schedule and budget is on course

  • Orchestrate and streamline the design documentation process for team members in both Chicago and Merida to drive projects toward implementation

  • Manage design coordination between architecture, owners, general contractor and other project collaborators

  • Manage and coordinate all communications to and from consultants

  • Lead a team to produce and deliver quality and timely sets of construction documents

  • Leads team to ensure conformance with Design and Architectural Standards checklist specific to each project design phase

  • Leads the Curioso team in performing its construction administration services including:

    • Responding to RFIs and interpreting the contract documents to ensure the design intent is met

    • Reviewing submittals, shop drawings, substitutions and field conditions for conformance with design intent

    • Attending and reporting field visits

    • Conducting punch list reviews

    • Resolving problems and issues that arise during construction

  • Share progress to keep Principal/Studio Design Leaders informed on project status
