Posted: Jan 4, 2022

nuTravel is looking for a rockstar UX/UI Product Designer to join our growing team of talented creatives, front-end developers and business analysts. This is a flexible, "remote-first" role with opportunity to work both remotely as well as in-person if/when needed.

But who - or what - is 'nuTravel'?

We are an intimate team of professionals who provide top-shelf strategy, design, and development services to a range of exciting clients throughout the online travel application marketplace, such as Air Canada, Westjet, Delta Air Lines and more. We're looking for someone with the right drive, passion and impressive skill-set to join us to strategize, develop and complete some seriously beautiful (and large) airline web applications and experiences, including our newest offering, Universal Connect (universalconnect.io).

This is a hands-on role within a fast-moving, rapidly-growing company. We are established (been around since the early 2000s), yet adhere to a startup mentality and take pride in getting things done right through experience and creativity. There will always be plenty of deadline-driven projects on your plate.

The right candidate for this role is aesthetically driven and values being a key member in an intelligent, multi-disciplined group. As part of our Product team, you'll be a key part of the idea generation process; working with developers, product owners, business analysts and project managers to conceive, analyze and design your ideas, start to finish.

With experience in your repertoire, you will assist in analyzing our business needs while taking ownership of designing new user interfaces and perfecting existing product experiences for high-profile partners in the travel industry. We may already have some great designs, but we need you to make them even better by focusing on user journeys and building out ground-breaking, modernized experiences for our customers.

This is a mid-level role for someone who can execute their work independently, but with the support and critique of other team members. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder (or Slack to Slack) with product strategists, business analysts and developers to bring the applications of major travel entities to life.

If the idea of your work being seen and used by hundreds of thousands of people every day while working for a company that is at the forefront of an industry's turning point, this might be the role for you.

Who we're looking for

You must exhibit a portfolio that demonstrates outstanding visual design talent and the ability to flex your style to the specific communication and positioning goals of each project. Equally important, you must possess the real world know-how of architecting and maintaining complex and scalable design systems for multiple application products; far more intricate and comprehensive than the standard brochureware of ecommerce websites. You must be energized by the prospect of working for large, complex organizations and think about your application designs as systems rather than a set of bespoke pages.

Qualifications

  • Your happy space is translating specs into incredible, scalable user experiences for both web and mobile.

  • You enjoy being a design chameleon as you venture outside of your own personal style to capture what each product strives to communicate visually.

  • You are self-motivated and self-managed with a proven high degree of analytical ability and intellectual curiosity.

  • You are well versed in design thinking and have experience guiding cycles of discovery, concepting, design, testing, and iteration.

  • You approach UX/UI design not as a series of bespoke templates but as a system of components and repeatable patterns.

  • You value the opportunity to work collaboratively with strategists and developers and are at ease receiving and responding to feedback from your teammates as well as members of a larger team.

  • You enjoy working with external stakeholders and feel comfortable presenting your work and receiving client feedback.

  • You revel in staying ahead of the latest technologies, standards and trends.

  • Proficiency working with Figma, Adobe XD, InVision, and productivity tools including Google Apps and Slack.

  • You must be demonstrably productive while working from home or a co-working space, and/or from our office headquarters in Purchase, New York (lower Westchester County).

  • You have at least 3 years of experience working in a similar role/capacity, with application UX/UI being at the forefront of your professional portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Create process flows, wireframes, and libraries upon libraries of responsive, mobile-first visual design systems, patterns and workable application prototypes that effectively conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors using appropriate design development tools.

  • Lead and collaborate with a cross-functional team of designers, developers, product owners, and marketing to translate business requirements and user needs into meaningful interactive experiences.

  • Communicate design decisions to several functions of the business as well as external stakeholders.

  • Perform additional design-related tasks as requested to achieve business objectives; "filling gaps" periodically in marketing, branding and industry-outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications), or equivalent professional experience which can be demonstrated via an amazing portfolio (Dribbble, Behance, etc.). If the portfolio is behind a firewall, please provide credentials.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a user experience designer, interface designer, visual designer, or similar role working with real time web and/or mobile applications.

  • Fluency in best practices for web and mobile information architecture and user-centric design principles along with a keen eye for subtle details.

  • Exceptional visual design skills, including the ability to establish visual hierarchy, layout, typography, and use color effectively.

  • Masterful knowledge of several design software/tools, but most importantly Figma and Adobe XD.

  • Experienced in creating web application interface prototypes using aforementioned tools, as well as various interactive prototyping tools.

  • Ability to demonstrate successful experience creating and maintaining UX pattern libraries.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Great to have

  • Experience with HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, Bootstrap and related technologies.

  • Working knowledge of React, Vue, and Twitter Bootstrap 4.x - 5.x front-end frameworks.

  • You communicate extremely well in person but also through tools like Jira and Slack.

  • Experience designing with cross-browser compatibility and accessibility in mind.

  • Experience with data-driven product development: analytics, A/B testing, etc.

  • Experience or working knowledge working within a Java/JSP environment is a HUGE plus.

  • Web development for Accessibility WCAG 2.0 a plus.

  • Commutable distance (+/- 40 miles) to Purchase, New York

Perks

  • Join the team at a time when you can help shape the future of the company.

  • 401k, PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance starting day one.

  • A performance culture that rewards results and promotes those that perform.

  • Equipment provided to set up a successful work environment as part of our "work where you work best" mantra.

  • Engaging team-building activities to make a remote-first workforce feel connected.

  • Being part of an organization that truly believes in uncapped potential and promoting from within.

Salary: $65-$85k. We recognize several levels of career progression for designers and tie compensation to those levels corresponding to their seniority and experience.
