The Web Specialist/Designer is an active member of the Web Working Group whose responsibilities include overseeing the College’s web redesign project and advising on web policy, is the primary designer and content manager for Union’s external website (www.union.edu). The selected candidate will serve as the office’s in-house Drupal and web design expert, and play a significant role in the redesign of the Union College website and the College’s transition to the Drupal content management system. Responsibilities will include optimizing Drupal to improve the quality, presentation and functionality of online content that supports the College’s strategic internal and external communications, assisting campus clients with management of web content, working with the Associate Director to ensure optimal SEO and security of website, and working with the Director on creation and execution of web content strategy.


The position requires a Bachelor's degree and minimum of three years of professional web experience in a Drupal environment (experience with Acquia is a plus), hands-on experience in the following technologies: JavaScript, JQuery, CSS3, HTML5, responsive frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Foundation), PHP, Sass or Less, experience with various Google applications including Analytics, Calendar, Docs, and Drive, and extensive knowledge of digital design methodologies and information architecture best practices across multiple platforms, including email and mobile, and higher education web best practices, including use of diagnostic services to monitor and improve SEO, performance and compliance with WCAG 2.0 accessibility guidelines. Preferred is familiarity with digital asset management systems, including experience managing a consistent taxonomy and metadata, a history of producing and optimizing content for digital vehicles (e-newsletters,  websites and social media), solid writing skills, competency in multimedia applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro video editing software, a working knowledge of WordPress and knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) including schema tags and performance optimization. Must be safety conscious and able to work with a diverse group of individuals.
